A sterling silver Boxer dog head pin, or brooch. This is a stunning thre quarter portait study of a beautiful Boxer dog head. Many pins like this are quite flat in design. This pin however is almost a full study of the dog's head. It is about a 75% study of the animal's head, expertly captured. The dog has real presence and a regal nature to it. From laying flat it reaches nearly an inch form a flat surface.
The Boxer breed originated in Germany in the late 19th century. It was developed from the now-extinct Bullenbeisser, a hunting dog descended from the English Mastiff, crossbred with Bulldogs imported from Great Britain. The Bullenbeisser had been used for centuries as a hunting dog, employed in the pursuit of bears, wild boars, and deer.
The pin is marked "sterling" inside the hollow back of the pin. It is hollow, but still has a god weight to it. All the animal's details have been wonderfully captures; hair, nose, eyes, and all important jowls! A fabulous piece that any Boxer owner will cherish!
Made in America, circa 1950's.
